Xenotop is a photo-bioreactor that simultaneously functions as an irrigation system. Within the sculptural installation, algae fluid circulates through a network of tubes, nourished by growth lamps embedded inside the sculptures. A vent at the birch tree allows it to be watered and fertilised at the same time with the algae solution. With this work, Taffner explores the potential of algae and envisions an intertwined future of nature and technology, of sustainable infrastructures for the city of the future.
