Malte Taffner (*1994, lives and works in Leipzig) is a visual artist, researcher and curator whose practice explores the interrelations between human and non-human species and their environments. Drawing on feminist posthumanist theories, his work envisions forms of cross-species coexistence and investigates on societal, political and ecological questions.

A central focus of his practice lies in materiality: Taffner works with living and growing materials such as plants, algae and fungi, while also examining the social, historical and cultural immanence of materials.

His trans- and interdisciplinary approach connects artistic research with curatorial projects, workshops and political education. These activities not only inform his artistic production but also open up spaces for dialogue and participation. Through installations, objects and collaborative formats, Taffner explores strategies of sustainable cooperation and the potential of natural and technological resources for imagining alternative futures.

Malte Taffner studied Fine Arts at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) and Kyoto Seika University in Japan. In 2021, he completed his Meisterschüler degree. His works have been shown nationally and internationally, including at the PIANA Gallery, Kraków, the Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover, Kunstverein Braunschweig and Shoot the Lobster, New York.

He has been awarded scholarships and grants from institutions such as the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and Stiftung Kunstfonds.

In addition to his artistic practice, Taffner is actively engaged in art education, political education and curatorial work. He is co-founder and board member of Kombinat e.V. (since 2022), where he organizes exhibitions and a residency program. In 2024 he founded the project space Hombyo (KRH), where he curates exhibitions and cultural events. He is also co-founder of the International Art Centre Petersberg (IKZP), an exhibition space located in a former Stasi nuclear bunker.
