photoprint of mycelium sculptures on fineart paper
photos: Malte Taffner
Destruenten werden is a two-parted photo series documenting sculptures grown from mycelium. The works emerged from a workshop of the same name, initiated and led by Taffner in collaboration with chemist and mycologist Dr. Henrik Christ from the Fraunhofer WKI. At its core, the project explores co-creation with non-human species and the idea of a circular way of life. For this, negative forms of objects and surfaces from the premises of the art association DIE H_LLE were cast in mushroom mycelium and transformed into collaborative sculptures. After their creation, the living sculptures were returned to the association’s garden, where the fungus continued its own process of growth and decay.
The workshop was initiated by the art association DIE H_LLE in collaboration with the maker space Protohaus in Braunschweig.
The project was funded by: Landesverband Soziokultur, Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur, AKB Stiftung und der Stiftung Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz.
