The app was an integral part of the exhibition A Fragment of Eden. It helped visitors to navigate from place to place, provided insight into the artworks and encouraged interaction with the works and other visitors via chats.

“We took a playful approach to the app, drawing inspiration from a mixture of old point-and-click games and newer games such as Pokémon Go and Geocaching. A fictional narrative introduces users to the app and the world of the exhibition. A map guides them through the city and shows the individual exhibition locations – which object can be seen where and when. However, the main focus lies on the chat function. The artworks are brought to life in the individual chats. They become entities in their own and tell of their stories, distant futures and parallel presents. In addition, location-based group chats can be activated on site via GPS. I am very excited to see how these will be used and how they will develop over the course of the project. In the group chats, users can exchange ideas about the works and the locations. Ideally, local groups will form here to discuss their ideas and even take action.”

excerpt from an interview with the artist

In 2021 Taffner got invited by the Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover to implement an installation in public space.
A Fragment of Eden was the third sub-project within the framework of Open Worlds, a research project of the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, the Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover, IMAGINE THE CITY Hamburg and the Museum Marta Herford. Together with artists, curators and users, the four institutions for contemporary art are developing digital parcours and artistic installations in urban spaces that intertwine physical and virtual experiences.
